Nursing

We offer NQ Access to Nursing at a level 6 to prepare you for employment within this industry or progression to further study.

We have excellent links with local employers and related organisations, and we use these relationships to benefit our students by bringing in knowledgeable speakers from the industry. Our previous Nursing students have received sessions from the Royal College of Nursing Workshops, Tommy Whitelaw Dementia Awareness and SWAP East.

We know that not all learning takes place within a classroom or college setting. We take our students out to various different organisations and settings, with previous students visiting the Surgeons Hall in Edinburgh, The Future Equipped Project and a trip to Annecy France as part of the Erasmus + Programme.

Many of our students also complete a placement to allow them to build the skills and experience needed to excel in their future career. Previous students have had the opportunity for work placements within the sector, many of who are now in permanent employment following their course.

Careers in Nursing

A career in nursing is varied and exciting, with no two days the same. To be successful in a nursing role generally requires you to be compassionate and empathetic, have the ability to work efficiently alone or as part of a team and be an excellent communicator.

There are currently 692,556 registered nurses in the UK.

On completion of your course you can progress to University, you can then work in various positions within the healthcare sector.

Previous students have found employment with the NHS Lothian and Glasgow, West Lothian Council and Enable Scotland, or went on to further study at The University of Edinburgh, The University of Stirling, Edinburgh Napier University or Queen Margaret University in subjects such as Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Psychology or Sociology.
