Jeanette Dobson is studying Introduction to care, science and social science at West Lothian College.
This course is designed for people who want to explore the variety of career and study paths they could follow within care, science and social science. It is a good choice for those who want a first look and to gain knowledge of these disciplines. This is one of the reasons why Jeanette chose this particular course. She knows exactly what she wants to do so this is the best way to get her there.
“I want to work in mental health. I would really love to work in a prison environment. The stigma surrounding mental health is bad enough but it must be so much worse for those in prison. Ideally I would like to work with young offenders who may be care experienced.
I’m a caring person by nature and I think being able to help people to turn their life around must be so rewarding.”
Jeanette was a bit nervous about returning to education but after making the initial decision she has never looked back.
"I’m so glad I decided to come to college. There are lots of opportunities and you’re looked after. It’s just a generally good environment. The course is great. I am finding it really interesting and hopefully I will pass and be able to progress onto Level 5 and beyond.”
