West Lothian College Brings Back Popular 5K Road Race

West Lothian College relaunched its popular 5K Road Race marking a welcome return of the event.
Starting and finishing at the college campus, the race took runners through the heart of Livingston and offered a mix of friendly competition and community spirit.
The event, which was sponsored by Decathlon Livingston, attracted nearly a hundred participants from the local community alongside college students and staff, all coming together to celebrate fitness and wellbeing.
Held on Wednesday 28 May, the race was organised by the college’s HNC Sports Coaching students, giving them valuable hands-on experience in event planning, promotion and sports leadership.
Graeme Mair, lecturer for the HNC Sports Coaching course and lead organiser of this year’s event, supported students throughout the planning and delivery of the race.
He said: "It was fantastic to see all the students’ hard work pay off in such a positive and well-run community event. It was brilliant to see so many recreational runners turn out and get involved in the race."
In a creative twist, participants were awarded hand-made, shortbread medals which were designed and baked by the college’s Level 4 Professional Cookery students - a unique and much-enjoyed finish line treat.
Jess Westcough, the college’s Active Campus Coordinator, added: "It was great to see the 5K Road Race return to the college calendar. Events like this bring such great energy to the campus and really help strengthen the connection between students, staff and the wider community. The atmosphere on the day was brilliant and it was a real team effort to make it such a success.
"A huge well done to our Sports Coaching and students for their hard work in organising the event, and a big thank you to our sponsors for their generous support."
