Students Stage an Art Exhibition
West Lothian College students put on a show for their end of year art exhibition, bringing meaningful, moving and powerful messages to life.
The HNC Art Portfolio Production ended this year on a wonderful high, with an astonishing number of Art School places secured and a final showcase of their work on the college campus.
The Art exhibition, showcased by the production class, was the largest scale show the college’s students have ever done, illustrating their depth of enquiry and ambition.
The exhibition encouraged the students at HNC level to base their coursework on their own chosen lines of investigation. A range of subject themes were explored including deeply personal and courageous themes as well as more light-hearted works, highlighting the remarkable understanding of the importance of presenting their work in a way that communicates, connects and is accessible to the viewer.
Alex Harvey, Art lecturer at West Lothian College, said:
“It is testament to the students and the work they have produced during the course that everyone has a choice of degrees at the most prestigious Art Schools in Scotland with the majority having options to enter directly to second year. They have done remarkably well; we are immensely proud of each and every one of our students, and wish them every success in the future.”
With every HNC Art Portfolio Production student offered a place at university, they will be heading to Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design at Dundee University, Glasgow School of Art, Edinburgh Napier University, Gray's School of Art at Robert Gordon University, and Edinburgh College of Art at the University of Edinburgh.
College principal, Jackie Galbraith, added:
“West Lothian is very fortunate to have such talented artists who have already been acknowledged by Scotland’s top art schools for their innovative and powerful work. I wish all our students well in their new ventures and I know they would want me to highlight the tremendous learning experience they had at West Lothian College under the expert guidance of their lecturer, Alex Harvey.”
