New Craft and Kindness workshop helps promote mindfulness
A lecturer from West Lothian College is promoting kindness through her crafts with a new workshop open in the centre of Livingston.
Lecturer Rebecca Nicol is famous on campus for promoting kindness with her clay creations, reminding people to be present and caring for others. She even spent some time in lockdown creating clay ornaments to leave around her neighbourhood so that people could have a pick me up when out for a walk.
On starting the Craft and Kindness workshop Rebecca said: “The workshop has been a dream of mine for a long time. I feel very passionate about kindness, creativity and teaching and when I had the chance to teach Creative Enterprise to the Assisted Programme students a wee while back, that passion grew even stronger.
“I love providing a friendly, supporting and creative atmosphere for people to just be themselves, let go of any pressures and have fun being creative. I want to provide a place that’s inclusive and where people can count on always being met with kindness and warmth.”
A variety of sessions and workshops are available from painting to making clay creations allowing participants to exercise their creative muscles in a calm and welcoming environment. You can even nominate someone for a free session if they need a little dose of kindness.
One participant, Fiona Patterson, said: “Rebecca is so patient and welcoming. The clay workshop is well organised with so many excellent resources to allow you to make your own creations. A relaxing and really enjoyable experience for any age.”
Rebecca added: “Life has been really difficult for many people during the last couple of years and being creative is a great outlet.”
The workshop is located at the Barbara Ritchie House, Almondvale Way, , Livingston EH54 6GB and you can find out more and book sessions by visiting https://www.craftandkindness.co.uk/.
