Livingston MP lends support to West Lothian College Futsal Tournament
Pupils from Howden St Andrews Primary School and Williamston Primary School recently had the opportunity to take part in a Futsal tournament at West Lothian College.
The event was part of the college’s Winter Futsal Festival in which invited primary 6 and 7 girls both schools in Livingston to take part in futsal drills and matches led by our ladies team.
This is part of the college’s drive to provide greater opportunities for girls in West Lothian to participate in football and futsal whilst building links in the local community.
Livingston MP, Hannah Bardell was in attendance at the event to lend her support to all the young footballers taking part.
Martin McCann from West Lothian College said: “Our ladies are fantastic role models and ambassadors for Women in Sport and this event was no exception with all girls being engaged and encouraged throughout, having a fantastic time in what for most was a brand new experience.”
“It was fantastic to have our local MP Hannah Bardell joining us to see the progress and development of our women’s futsal program here at the college which has grown from nothing, to now having two competitive squads traveling around the U.K to take part in matches and tournaments in only 18 months.”
From 2019 there will be a ‘Girls in Football’ course at West Lothian College specifically for S5 and S6 girls around West Lothian which will provide greater opportunities to develop as players and build a career in the game.
