College students cook up a storm in Parliament

Students from West Lothian College took over the kitchens at the Scottish Parliament to cook up a meal for MSPs.

The group of Level 5 and 6 Professional Cookery students presented a six-course tasting menu at Holyrood on 19 November.

Both local MSPs, Angela Constance and Fiona Hyslop, attended the dinner.

Fiona said: “I was pleased to attend the Holyrood Dining Room in the Scottish Parliament where Professional Cookery students from West Lothian College cooked and served an excellent tasting menu.

“The students not only cooked a wonderful meal but also provided excellent service and I hope benefitted from the experience and talking to the Parliament’s chefs.

“Congratulations to the staff and students involved in serving delicious, flavoursome food, so well-presented and served by the attentive waiting staff.”

The menu included a smoked salmon frittata, pork and black pudding wellington and sticky figgy pudding.

Lynn Bain, faculty director at West Lothian College, added: “We are thrilled that our talented Level 5 and 6 Professional Cookery students had the honour of returning to the Scottish Parliament this year to deliver a six-course menu, which went down a treat.

“I would like to thank Stuart Rose and his team for providing this opportunity. Experiences like these are pivotal for our students, allowing them to develop their skills, and showcase their talents. Working alongside the Parliament’s chefs gives them real-world experience that will help them in their future careers.”
