West Lothian College has been shortlisted in six categories at this year’s College Development Network Awards – the highest number of finalists from a single college in Scotland.

Highlighting the talent of staff and students in colleges across Scotland, a record 169 entries were submitted for this year's awards and 39 have been shortlisted.

West Lothian College finalists include Raymond Bremner who is shortlisted for Lecturer of the Year for his project-based teaching approaches that have led to great success rates for young construction students.

Micole Cochrane has been shortlisted for the Professional Services Colleague of the Year for how she supports generations of elected student presidents to make the most of their two-year paid sabbaticals.

The college has also been recognised in the Sustainability Action category for the progress it is making to tackle the climate emergency by decarbonising two of its campus buildings and in how it is using its ECOHOUSE to develop green skills of the current and future workforce.

In the Inclusive College category the college has been nominated for what it has done to embrace equality and diversity, and create a welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ students and staff.

The other awards the college is shortlisted for are in the Health and Wellbeing, and Innovation categories.

Jackie Galbraith, principal of West Lothian College, commented: “What can I say? Our fantastic staff have done it again, reaching the final of these six national awards.

"It is a real pleasure and a privilege to work with such talented people who are completely focused on providing our students with the best possible learning experience.”
