This course is for those with a learning disability who are ready to become more independent. It covers personal and social development, and moving into adulthood. As part of the course, students discuss their experiences, perceptions and understanding of topics and issues.

Days of study: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 

  • What the course includes

    The course looks at skills and knowledge to work out and plan learning, and to make effective transactions from school or unemployment. The course explores the concept of ‘self’; and develops awareness of personal or social development needs. It includes:

    • Self-evaluation
    • Health and wellbeing
    • Life skills
    • Planning for the future
    • Making decisions
    • Developing confidence
    • Recognising opportunities
    • Preparing for employment

Why choose this course

It gives you the chance to work with others in college and in other groups. It includes working with careers staff, employers, college staff and support agencies. You will have the chance to do one session a week in another college department such as photography, construction or hospitality.
