SCHOOLS EVENING PORTFOLIO SKILLS

This course is most suitable for 5th and 6th year pupils who may be intending to apply to Art College or an HNC/D at an FE College. It may also suit some 4th year pupils. 

Please note: Applications for all Full-Time, Part-Time and Schools courses for August 2026 entry are now closed.
If you are interested in studying with us, applications for our January 2027 Full-Time Short Courses will open on 13th October 2026.

Applications for August 2027 entry will open in mid-January 2027. These courses will be showcased at our December Showcase Event, with full details available closer to the time.

The course is taught by a practising artist who can share their experience of art education and having a career in the arts.

  • What the course includes

    This is a practical course that will give you the opportunity to explore subjects including: 

    • Drawing techniques and media
    • Figure drawing
    • Colour techniques and media
    • Textile skills including printing and dyeing.
    • Digital skills
    • Printmaking
    • Exploring 3D
    • Sketchbook development

    This course will introduce you to the work of current day and historical artists and designers to inspire or inform your future studies.

    We offer NQ Art and Design (Portfolio Development) and HNC Art Portfolio Production.  

    For the past 10 years, 100% of our HNC Art Portfolio Production students applying to degree level studies were offered places on their chosen courses.  

    The majority of our HNC Art Portfolio Production students are offered direct entry to year two. Some of the prestigious offers are degree studies at:

    Our Art School Guarantee 

    West Lothian College’s art department has excellent links with Art Schools and University degree programmes. 

    Our HNC Art Portfolio Production course benefits from an exciting articulation agreement which guarantees our students a first year place at Gray’s School of Art at Robert Gordon University. Students with an ‘A’ pass have a guaranteed offer to progress directly to second year studies in Fine Art.
