This course is designed to give learners the opportunity to gain introductory knowledge of the Social Sciences.

Duration: 18 weeks

On this course, you will learn to think critically and analyse local, national and global topics, such as social and political issues, citizenship, sustainability, morality and mental health.

There will also be the opportunity to learn numeracy skills, which are essential for a career in the Social Sciences, particularly in Psychology and Criminology.  

  • What the course includes

    The course will include developing meta skills, such as problem solving, teamwork, communication and citizenship/enterprise skills.

    The course will give an introduction to Social Science subjects, such as RMPS, Mental Health, Modern Studies and Level 4 Numeracy. These will cover a range of interesting subjects, such as inequality, values and beliefs and social issues.

This course will give learners the opportunity to gain the building blocks of Social Science knowledge and skills.

Learners will then be able to progress into other Social Science courses.

What are the entry requirements?

Applicants should be working at SCQF Level 4 or have attained at least two National 4 qualifications or equivalent, which preferably includes English.

A proficiency in numeracy would be a distinct advantage.

    This course can lead to further study and career progression in the Social Sciences, such as Gateway to Psychology, Criminology and Social Sciences.
