This one-year exciting course covers the skills required to enter the hairdressing industry. You will work in our salons providing a realistic industry environment and gain essential practical experience.

  • What the course includes

    Throughout the course, you will have practical sessions delivering basic hairdressing services. You will work with mannequins, peers and clients to create styles.

    You will work in our Platinum salon where you will be working with others and assisting to gain a realistic working environment.

    You will cover Employability skills and learn about health and safety in the salon, this course also covers essential skills in retail, reception, communications and IT.

    We will also have guest speakers who will come in to the college who will tell you about career options, do live demos and will keep you up to date with trends.

    You will also be able to compete in our in house competitions and our AHT to showcase your skills.

Entry requirements

  • You should be motivated, enthusiastic and interested in the hairdressing industry.
  • We welcome applications from mature returners, including those who lack formal qualifications or who wish to change career direction.
  • If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.
  • You must successfully pass your interview to be accepted on this course.

  • Where it will lead

    This qualification will teach you employability skills which will allow you to enter the industry as a junior or continue your studies to the next level (Level 5 Hairdressing) to advance your hairdressing skills.

Interview arrangements

We will invite you for interview at which we will give you information about the course and a one-to-one interview, and ask you to complete a written/research task.

Students who successfully completed this course have moved on to the higher level in hairdressing, stating that this course gave them the confidence to progress and a great introduction to a career in hairdressing.
