NPA in Creative and Digital Media (Tues & Thurs)

This course is for anyone interested in working in games or app development, social media, advertising, TV, film and the creative arts.

  • What the course includes

    While completing four units, students will be guided through how the creative industries work, the roles and progression routes, and how things get made.  

    Through teamwork and collaborative projects, students will produce passionate pieces and work alongside corporate partners to deliver top-class creative products. 

    Units: Creative Industries: An Introduction (Scotland); Storytelling for the Creative Industries; Creative Industries: Understanding a Creative Brief; Media: Understanding the Creative Process.

Entry requirements

  • Achieved National 5/level 5 in English or Communication, and core skills IT  
  • Achieved National 4/level 4 in Maths or Numeracy  
  • Interest in learning about the Creative Industries  
  • Be capable of working at level 6 (Higher)  
  • Excellent school attendance record

You do not need to have digital media production experience/knowledge - you will learn these on your course.

    Education: HNC Digital Creative Media at West Lothian College or elsewhere, Modern Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media at SCQF level 7 or further study within similar subject areas.   

    Employment: Currently the Creative Industries in Scotland supports over 70,000 jobs in over 15,000 companies, with roles including games artist, movie art director, copywriter, script editor, commissioning editor, set builder, props creator, development executive, data analyst, broadcast engineer, camera operator, sound technician, app developer, creative technologist, account manager and more.  

    Additionally, Central Scotland is designated by the UK government as the Creative Hub for film and video production. 

Interview arrangements

We ask applicants to write a short review of a media product at interview. 

Questions you may be asked at interview include: 

  • Tell us about your experience of creating digital media products. 
  • Tell us about what problems arose in previous projects, and how you resolved them. 
  • Tell us about how you used your strengths when working with others or by yourself on a project. 
  • Tell us about what challenges you have faced when undertaking group and solo projects, and steps you took to improve your skills.

There is an exciting and engaging induction/interview event where students will work together to create a media product to a brief, as well as an informal discussion to find out what you are looking for in the course/college, and answer any questions.
