LEVEL 4 FOUNDATION APPRENTICESHIP IN AUTOMOTIVE SKILLS (TUE & THU)

This course is aimed at S4 & S5 pupils and above and is an ideal starting point for anyone thinking about a career in the motor vehicle industry as an automotive engineer or mechanic. It runs over two years, and offers a mix of theory and practice leading to an introductory qualification.

Times: 1:15 – 4:15pm
Duration: 1 year

This course offers a mix of theory and hands on experience in our campus automotive workshop. Students will also take part in site visits and hear from industry experts providing an ideal opportunity to gain valuable insights into the sector.

  • What the course includes

    The course covers general workplace skills such as team building, problem solving, health and safety and workspace management as well as skills and knowledge needed in the motor vehicle industry. Subjects include:

    • Engine lubrication and cooling
    • Fuel and exhaust systems
    • General mechanics
    • Electrical systems
    • Braking systems
    • Steering and suspension
    • Wheels and tyres

  • National 3 in maths and English
  • Working towards level 4
  • Interest in learning about motor vehicle studies

  • VRQ2 LIGHT VEHICLE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR

    Education: Full-time automotive engineering programme; opportunity to progress to higher-level courses such as Introduction to Automotive Environment, or to an apprenticeship.

Interview arrangements

We will invite you for an interview which consists of a practical group activity in the workshop and a short interview.
