The course is a partnership between West Lothian College and a range of industry partners, aiming to support students into sustainable employment.

  • What the course includes

Journey to Employment is for students who want to secure full time employment. Once on the course, the student will spend allocated time on site with the host employer. During this period they will complete a work placement and will gain relevant SQA qualifications in Employability and Customer Service.

Why choose this course

Journey to Employment will give students the opportunity to take part in a variety of work placements and will help to work out next steps and specific areas of interest in the workplace.

This will allow students to build on independence, confidence and self-esteem and gather skills and experience needed to be job ready.

The course will be led by an award-winning team where previous students have excelled. During the pandemic years, 80% of students gained meaningful employment.

Entry requirements

Prospective students must want to gain employment.

  • Where will it lead

The course helps students into full time work.

Interview arrangements

We will invite candidates for interview, and they should plan to be in college for around three hours. The interview includes:

  • Practical team task
  • Aptitude test
  • Individual interview

Our lecturers work closely with each student to identify their strengths and consider any barriers to securing employment. For some, confidence building and managing a new situation is the initial goal and for others who are clear on what they want to do, the goal is to gain experience in the workplace.
