INTRODUCTION TO CONSTRUCTION SKILLS (JAN) LEVEL 4

This course is suited to those thinking about a career in carpentry and joinery.

It is an ideal course for school leavers to develop skills such as health and safety & manufacturing carpentry and joinery products. It includes classroom and workshop-based activities and supports students on to further study or employment.

End date - June 13, 2026

Days:  Wednesday and Friday   
Times: 9am - 4pm   
Duration:  18 weeks

    What this course includes

    You will develop skills and knowledge in the carpentry & Joinery discipline, including practical skills in a workshop environment such as fitting lock and latches and project work.

    This course is awarded and certificated by City & Guilds which is a national recognised qualification.

Entry requirements

  • National 3 mathematics, English and a technical/science subject

If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.

    National Progression Award (NPA) construction or any SCQF Level 5 courses in Engineering, Construction and Automotive at West Lothian College.

The interview involves a practical skills test and a group interview. You will need to bring copies of your previous qualifications on the day.
