This course is for S3, S4 and S5 pupils and above, and is an ideal starting point for those still at school but considering a career in the motor vehicle industry.

    What the course includes

    The course covers general workplace skills such as health and safety, communication and workspace management as well as skills and knowledge in maintenance, processes, repair of motor vehicles and use of hand tools.

    Subjects include:

    • Health and Safety
    • Careers in Transportation, Maintenance and Repair
    • Hand Tools
    • Communication in the Motor Vehicle Environment
    • Workshop Cleaning and Maintenance
    • Routine Vehicle Maintenance Processes and Procedures

You’ll get the opportunity to develop a career in the automotive industry by gaining skills within a practical motor vehicle workshop environment.

It will introduce you to the engineering aspects of motor vehicles and give you experience in repairs and maintenance.

If you complete the course successfully- you can progress on to a full-time motor vehicle programme in automotive engineering.

Entry requirements

  • Access 3 Maths and English
  • Working towards Level 4
  • Interest in learning about motor vehicle studies
  • Excellent school attendance record

If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course. 

  • Where is leads

    On completion of this course, it can lead into further education- including a full-time automotive engineering programme and/or the opportunity to progress to higher-level courses such as Introduction to the Automotive Environment.

    It can also lead to an apprenticeship.

Interview arrangements

We will invite you for an interview, which consists of a practical group activity in the workshop and a short interview.
