Zoe Bayliss HNC Care and Administrative Practice
Zoe Bayliss was so inspired by the nurses who looked after her daughter when she was ill that she decided to study nursing at college.
Zoe Bayliss spent a lot of time in hospital when her daughter was unwell and watching the remarkable work carried out by the nurses which inspired her to pursue a career in nursing.
“My oldest daughter had a cancer diagnosis when she was really young and as a result, I spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital. She is now in remission but I often think of how hard the nurses work and how much they put into their job. I have to admit I was very inspired by them.”
Zoe, who lives in Broxburn, had always been interested in a career in nursing and spent the last few years working in the care sector. She applied for HNC Care and Administrative Practice in order to gain some formal qualifications.
“I knew it was necessary to gain some qualifications in order to further my career. West Lothian College is perfect for me as I had heard very positive things about the course and with my children attending school nearby, it made perfect sense to study here.
The course itself is fantastic and I’m really enjoying it, although I have to say it was a little intense to start! There was information just coming at you in all directions and it can seem like a lot but I think it was just because everything was very new to me. It really does quickly settle down and there is a lot of support there from the wonderful teaching staff.”
Looking to the future, Zoe is hoping to progress onto university to study Adult Nursing before moving into a career in district nursing or end of life care.
