Sammy Stone, Women in STEM
Women in STEM student Sammy Stone was looking for a change but wasn’t sure what she was looking for. A chance viewing of a social media post changed all that.
Sammy who lives in Polbeth explains:
“I was looking to get into education after being out of work for a while. I was on Facebook and saw an advert for the Women in STEM course and I was intrigued. I thought the course would cover a wide range of subjects and give me more options which it certainly has.”
The 16 week fast-track course gives women the chance to experience what it is like to work in engineering, computing and construction. They are given the chance to learn skills and knowledge to guarantee progression on to more advanced full-time programmes or employment.
Sammy has found the course “interesting but challenging” and has indeed applied for further study.
“I have applied for the HNC Engineering systems course which is a bit crazy as I never imagined I would be studying engineering let alone really enjoying it! The course has really opened my eyes to all the opportunities out there. I’d tell anyone sitting on the fence to try it! The subject matter may seem a little confusing to start with but you soon get your head round it.”
