Roxanne-Valeria Andreuta NC Travel and Tourism Level 6
Roxanne-Valeria Andreuta came to West Lothian College with a view to becoming more employable within the bustling tourism sector.
26 year old Roxanne, who is originally from Romania but is currently living in Carstairs Junction, is studying NC Travel and Tourism Level 6 at the college and as she explains the course is already paying dividends towards her goal of a full time job in the sector:
“The Tourism industry is an expanding one with lots of opportunities to get a good job. When I first came to Scotland, I thought that enrolling in a good college would help to enhance my employability skills. West Lothian College has helped me with this as during my studies I have successfully applied for many temporary jobs within the industry giving me valuable work experience.”
Although a little nervous about taking that leap of faith to return to education, Roxanne has found the experience to be a beneficial one:
“Coming to West Lothian College has been a new experience for me which I have found very enjoyable. The lecturers are very helpful and supportive and I get on well with my fellow students.”
Roxanne was also the successful applicant to win a 12 moth paid internship to work in the USA with Alliance Abroad, an opportunity presented to her class by her lecturer who informed them of the opportunity. While she cannot wait to take up this fantastic opportunity she is also very aware of the importance of completing what she started here at West Lothian College.
“I applied for the internship with Alliance Abroad and was lucky enough to be selected. The internship will most likely be in Texas but I have spoken with them and asked if we could delay it slightly so I can complete my studies here at the college so I should now be leaving in May 2019 giving me time to complete my course and get my visa in order. On my return, I will be hoping to return to college to study an HNC or hopefully find work within the industry.“
While she is about to set off on an amazing adventure, Roxanne already has her mind set on the future and where she sees herself down the line:
“It may not be the most extraordinary job in the world but I would love to be a tour guide.”
Wherever she ends up, Roxanne will be forever grateful for the chances she received while studying at the college.
“Coming to college changed my life. It’s broadened my horizons and I have more opportunities available to me than I ever could have imagined.”
