Martyna Munro HNC Built Environment
Martyna Munro began her journey with West Lothian College in February 2016 when she enrolled in Women in STEM.
This allowed her to prepare and choose different subjects of study in various engineering, construction and computing fields (at Level 5 and 6). She found that her main strengths lay in the construction units and in August 2016 she began the NC Built Environment course.
Martyna chose the course as she felt it maximised the progression routes available to her alongside future employment opportunities and as a mature student that was something of great importance to her.
When asked about the highlights of the course, Martyna was quick to point out that the support available at West Lothian College alongside the positive atmosphere around campus made a huge impact on her journey.
“I found the tutors and staff at West Lothian College to be supportive and encouraging. They always review your progress and ensure you are up to date with material while providing lots of materials and supporting notes. The positive atmosphere at college helps a lot too”.
Martyna continued her progression at West Lothian College by studying towards an HNC in Built Environment before ultimately progressing to Glasgow Caledonian University where she is currently in the third year of her quantity surveying degree. She has also secured full-time permanent employment as a Quantity Surveyor with Clark Contracts.
She offers this advice to potential students:
“The course is very interesting and while it may seem a bit daunting, if you follow the material and revise regularly there is nothing too difficult about it. My lecturers are so supportive and have helped me on my way to achieving a degree.”
