Alasdair Wightman HNC Civil Engineering
Alasdair Wightman had some experience of West Lothian College through one of our Foundation Apprenticeship courses.
18 year old Alasdair quickly decided he enjoyed studying at the college and applied for a full-time course. He explains.
“I had been studying a Foundation Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering course at the college during which I achieved an NC. I really enjoyed the subject matter and I preferred the college environment to school so I successfully applied for the HNC Civil Engineering course and I haven’t looked back since."
When asked what parts of the course were his favourite, Alasdair who lives in Longridge struggle to narrow it down to one.
"I love geo-technics which is basically the study and modification of science and rocks and I also really enjoy sub structures which is the design of basements and that type of thing."
As his course is nearing completion, Alasdair already has one eye on the future and is keen to progress to university.
“I have received conditional offers from Napier and Heriot Watt so I need to get an A on my graded unit so I am working really hard to achieve that.”
Alasdair’s story is another fine example of how West Lothian College can provide a perfect stepping stone from school into university and ultimately a rewarding career.
