West Lothian College hairdressing and beauty therapy students recently picked up three awards at the regional finals of the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) competition.
The event held at Edinburgh College saw hair and beauty students from across the UK compete in different award categories. West Lothian College level 6 beauty therapy students Kelly Brady and Milena Bihari were awarded second and third place for the free hand nail art competition. Level 6 hairdressing student Donna Wallace also scooped third place in the gents barbering commercial free style creative design category.
Kelly, Milena and Donna will now prepare for the UK finals which will see them travel to Blackpool to compete in March. Speaking of the experience and how they are feeling about the upcoming finals, students commented: “although it was a challenging and stressful experience, we all had great fun and it was good to see other students’ work. Going forward for Scotland is so exciting, hopefully with a little more practice this month we will be ready to take on the UK finalists.”
West Lothian College Beauty Therapy Lecturer Laura Johnston said: “Competing in this event is a great experience for all of our students, and I am so proud of the outstanding, creative and professional work they presented. With only sixteen of our students competing, to have three win awards is exceptional and is testament to their hard work and determination.”
“Looking ahead to the finals in Blackpool, we would like to wish Donna, Kelly and Milena the best of luck as they compete against some of the best students in the UK. I am certain that our students will be leaving Blackpool with many other medals.”
