West Lothian College has been shortlisted for four awards in three categories at the upcoming Bridge 2 Business Enterprise Awards which recognise students and educators who are leading the way in enterprise education.
The college has been shortlisted for four awards in three categories - College Enterprise Champion Award, two Special Recognition Awards, and Enterprising Student of the Year Award.
The College Enterprise Champion Award highlights a lecturer or any member of staff who is leading the way in enterprise education in their college, something that nominee Steven Morrison is very passionate about.
Steven has also been nominated in the Special Recognition category along with John Begbie. They have been shortlisted as deserving special recognition for their dedication, passion or development in supporting enterprise education.
Finally, Tori-Leigh Adams has been shortlisted in the Enterprising Student of the Year category for showing enterprising spirit and a creative approach to a specialised project or business idea.
Tori-Leigh was home schooled and her college journey started at the age of 11 after attending an open evening with her mother where she asked about coming to college on a part-time basis to gain core skills qualifications. Later, she tapped into her love of stock car racing and turned that interest into a career by applying for a Light Vehicle Maintenance course.
Through an international exchange scheme, Tori-Leigh worked in a garage in Sweden in 2019. She highlights her college work in weekly LinkedIn posts which have been noticed by many and led to many opportunities to help progress her career.
Now 19, Tori-Leigh is preparing for the next step in her college journey after being accepted onto a Business course beginning in August. This ties into her long-term goal of opening a female friendly garage, run for women by women.
Tori-Leigh nominated John and Steven in the Bridge 2 Business Enterprise Awards because they were pivotal in her college journey. She was pleasantly surprised to discover she had been shortlisted in the Enterprising Student of the Year category!
The Bridge 2 Business Enterprise Awards will be a virtual event this year and take place on Thursday 28 April at 7pm.
