Can you help me recruit a Modern Apprentice?: Yes we can help you with your recruitment, contact business@west-lothian.ac.uk
Are Modern Apprenticeships fully funded?: All training is funded through Skills Development Scotland, however a Modern Apprentice is an employee and therefore salaries would be covered by you, the organisation. Please contact business@west-lothian.ac.uk for further information
What age do you have to be to be able to do a Modern Apprenticeship?: Modern Apprenticeships are typically for ages 16-24 however 20-29 year olds who have additional support requirements, are care experienced or have a long term health issue may also be eligible. Do students undertaking an SVQ need to come to college?: No, we have work based assessors throughout the central belt to support students undertaking a qualification within their own workplace. Please contact workforcedevelopment@west-lothian.ac.uk for more information
How long will an SVQ take to complete?: SVQs range from 6-12 months depending on which level is undertaken. Please contact workforcedevelopment@west-lothian.ac.uk
When do SVQs start?: SVQs can start throughout the year. A waiting list is in operation. Please contact workforcedevelopment@west-lothian.ac.uk
Is there funding available for SVQs?: If not paid for by an employer, the college can signpost students towards SAAS funding depending on eligibility and the qualification undertaken. You can visit our Fees, Finance & Funding page under Help & Advice to find out more.
A member of staff is carrying out an SVQ but paying their own fees, so why do I need to give permission?: A workplace assessor will be visiting students in their workplace to observe them working and therefore you, the employer, must give permission to allow our assessors access. I am looking to put a staff member through training, do I need to pay the full amount in advance?: Companies must pay the full amount on enrolment of students. If students are self funding they can request a payment plan. For more information you can contact finance@west-lothian.ac.uk
Can you help me advertise a job vacancy?: Yes, we would be happy to help advertise your vacancies on our college virtual learning systems, where current and former students have access. For more specialised recruitment, we can also target specific subject areas. Please contact employerengagement@west-lothian.ac.uk to advertise a vacancy
Can you help me advertise a volunteering opportunity to your staff and students?: Yes, we would love to help promote any volunteering opportunities to our staff and students. Email employerengagement@west-lothian.ac.uk to discuss your needs further
Can you tell me when you are having careers days that I can get involved in?: You can visit our Events page for information on our upcoming events, or email employerengagement@west-lothian.ac.uk to register your interest in exhibiting in our next event
