This course introduces automotive engineering to those wanting to pursue a career in the motor vehicle industry. The motor vehicle industry is developing at a fast rate and, as vehicles become increasingly technical, so do the skills and knowledge needed to service and maintain them. You will develop practical skills in a workshop environment, and learn theory and principles in the classroom.

    The course includes:

    • Braking systems, engine, suspension, oils, lubricants, maintenance and servicing
    • Safety
    • Communication, information technology, problem solving, team-working and numeracy
    • Work experience, placements, visits to industry and visits from experts

Interview arrangements

If we want to interview you, we will email or write to you with the date and time. You should plan to be in college for up to three hours. Bring evidence of any qualifications or employment references.

The interview involves:

  • Arrival, welcome and course overview
  • Individual aptitude/tests and practical test
  • Individual interview and the chance to discuss the course with two members of staff from the department
