The NPA Bakery course is delivered within the professional kitchens at West Lothian College as part of the school’s travel column. Students will work with lecturers with outstanding industry experience on a range of practical activities.   

Tuesday & Thursday 1pm – 4pm.

  • What the course includes

    The National Progression Award in Bakery at SCQF level 4 will give you a platform which will allow you to develop appropriate bakery skills in breadmaking, craft baking, pastry and cake decoration, to help you to progress into higher education or employment. You will cover the following 4 units:

    • Craft Baking: An Introduction
    • Bread Making: An Introduction
    • Cake Decorating: An Introduction
    • Pastry

There are no specific entry requirements for the National Progression Award in Bakery. You can discuss your situation with a college and staff there will be pleased to offer you advice on how the National Progression Award can be of help to you.

    Education: The NPA in Bakery is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to progress onto full-time college programmes or exit into employment.

    Employment: The NPA in Bakery could lead to employment within the bakery industry. It will provide invaluable practical experience and knowledge to candidates who aspire to the more technical professions which exist in bakery.

Interview Arrangements

The interview will involve: a visit to the Professional Cookery department to meet the bakery lecturer and participate in a basic practical bakery exercise.
