This course is for those wanting to develop a career in the hospitality industry and to gain professional cookery experience and qualifications. It suits school leavers or those looking for a change in career. It runs for 12 weeks. We anticipate students moving into work at one of the busiest times of the year for the industry.   • What the course includes

    The course covers:

    • Introduction to the catering and hospitality industry
    • Preparing and cooking a variety of foods
    • Study of healthy eating
    • Menu project
    • IT, numeracy, problem solving and communication

    You will have the chance to work in our award-winning Terrace Restaurant. Some evening work is required

Entry requirements

  • At least two National 4 awards or equivalent

We welcome applications from mature students, particularly those who lack formal qualifications but have experience in the industry.

  • Where it leads

    Education: professional cookery level 5 or 6.  

    Employment: opportunities to work in the UK and abroad at different levels within the industry. Former students have found employment with the Sheraton Hotel, Dakota Hotel and All Bar One to name but a few.

Interview arrangements

If we invite you for interview, plan to be in college for up to three hours. The interview involves:

  • Theory task testing your knowledge of food
  • Individual interview
