This course is designed for students to gain an insight into hairdressing careers and prepare for progression onto NC Hairdressing (Level 5).

  • What the course includes

    This one year course covers the skills required to be an assistant in a hairdressing salon. It includes practical sessions where you will be working on clients and mannequin heads, and a theory class covering the knowledge and understanding required. To enhance your skills you will work in our Commercial salon environment as part of a team with other students preparing, contributing to and delivering hairdressing services including shampooing and conditioning, blow drying and removing colour, as well as with your own clients. You may also assist within the reception area of the salon. There will also be an opportunity to develop employability and core skills such as communication and information technology which are vital in a modern hairdressing salon environment.

Entry requirements

No specific qualifications, the key criteria for this course is that you have motivation, enthusiasm and a genuine interest in the hairdressing industry. You should have ESOL Level 5 if required.
