This course is for those who are thinking about a career in construction. It is a good introduction to skills such as plumbing, tiling, roofing, brickwork, decorative painting, carpentry and joinery. It includes classroom and workshop-based activities and support students on to further study or employment.

  • What the course includes

    You will develop skills and knowledge in various disciplines within the construction industry, including practical skills in a workshop environment. The course also covers safety, communication, information technology, problem solving, team-working and numeracy.

  • National 3 mathematics, English and a technical/science subject

    Education: National Progression Award (NPA) construction or any SCQF level 5 courses in engineering, construction and motor vehicle at West Lothian College.

Interview arrangements

If we want to interview you, we will email or write to you with the date and time. You should plan to be in college for up to three hours. Bring evidence of any qualifications or employment references.

The interview involves:

  • Arrival, welcome and course overview
  • Individual aptitude/practical tests
  • Individual interview and the chance to discuss the course with two members of staff from the department
