PDA in Scottish Football Association : Refereeing L7

This course will equip individuals with knowledge and understanding of Scottish FA Refereeing, concentrating on knowledge and understanding of the Laws of the Game of football. It also includes learning about formal fitness standards for referees and putting all this knowledge into practice by refereeing a football match.

  • What the course includes

    The course has two units, one focusing on the Laws of the Game (LOTG) and the second one developing expertise in Practical Refereeing. Students will learn about Laws, fitness testing protocols for referees and understand how to complete reports when dealing with various sanctions.

This course is for learners who are interested in learning about the Laws of the Game of football and practical refereeing. The aim of the PDA is to enable successful learners to referee football matches and develop occupational skills enhancing future career prospects. 

Entry requirements

As this qualification is at SCQF Level 7, students should be able to demonstrate they are able to study at Higher Level, either by having attained Higher Level qualifications or currently undertaking them, in order to gain entry to this qualification.

  • Where will it lead?

    Education Learners will be able to progress into HNC Coaching and Developing Sport, HNC Fitness Health and Exercise with additional qualifications at SCQF level 6 or suitable or

    Employment The PDA in refereeing, supported by the Scottish Football Association’s Refereeing Department, will allow successful learners to progress into a career in refereeing. Learners must meet the requirements of the of the refereeing department and apply for a Disclosure Scotland check.

Interview arrangements

If you are invited for an interview/course information session, plan to be in college for around two hours. The interview includes:

  • An introduction from the course tutor
  • An individual interview
  • Short written task
  • Please bring your practical kit and be prepared to take part in fitness testing activities.
  • Also bring evidence of your qualifications and/or employment references.
