This course is an ideal opportunity for those who are taking their initial steps into the world of Early Learning and Childcare.

Laying the foundations for you as a learner; this course explores key areas to support your knowledge and understanding and that will enable you to progress in your learning journey towards a career in Early Learning and Childcare.

    What the course includes

    On this course students will have the opportunity to begin to develop their understanding of child development and key concepts related to the importance of play and learning; particularly the benefits of learning outdoors. Students will have the opportunity to apply their learning to practice, by engaging with young learners when they visit the college campus.

Why choose this course

This short, full-time course provides a unique opportunity to explore the requirements of supporting children and young people; beginning at early level.

Led by an experienced lecturing team, students will be able to set up and support children to engage in valuable learning opportunities in both indoor and outdoor learning environments.

Students will develop their knowledge by working through a range of SQA units which will support them to decide the pathway of their learning. 

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for the course but in interest in working with children at early level is essential. You may be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) to confirm you are a suitable candidate to work with children and young adults.

    Where it leads

    Successful completion of this course will enable the learner to go on to study full time at Level 4 or Level 5 within the areas of childhood practice or health and social care on the condition of positive engagement and attendance and a successful interview.

Interview arrangements

Interviews will take place with members of the lecturing team. Please expect to be in college for around two hours and bring evidence of any qualifications. The interview will include some practical activity in line with what you will experience whilst on the course as well as some group and individual discussions.
