PATHWAY APPRENTICESHIP IN BUSINESS SKILLS

This course allows you to develop skills and knowledge in business administration relevant to all sectors: public, private and charitable sector. It’s a great way to close the gap between the classroom and the workplace, and to find out more about the world of work.

 

Attendance will be 4-5 days per week and will include a blend of classroom learning (2 days) and attending a placement (2-3 days) to ensure that you gain the employability skills necessary to gain the full qualification.

Why choose this course

You will work directly with employers through industry talks, visits and placements and receive expert guidance and support from our skilled teaching team. You will also develop core skills valued by employers: communication, problem solving, working with others, time management, etc.

An attendance allowance of at least £100 per week is payable to all Pathway Apprentices. It is possible to combine this course with a Kickstart Placement and those also taking part in the UK Government Kickstart Scheme will instead receive a higher rate of the National Minimum Wage for the work based element of the programme.

Entry requirements

National 5 Maths and English and preferably a business subject.

If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.

  • Where it leads

    Education: Modern Apprenticeship in business administration, HNC Business, HNC Accounting, HNC Marketing at West Lothian College.

    Employment: Qualification and experience for relevant work and good insight into other business-related subjects, such as digital marketing, procurement, supply chain management and enterprise.

    When you successfully complete the course you will have a Foundation Apprenticeship Certificate in your chosen subject. Pathway Apprenticeships open doors to Employment, Modern Apprenticeships, Graduate Apprenticeships, and higher level study at college or university.

    A qualification in business skills could lead to jobs such as administrative assistant, purchasing manager, management consultant, company secretary, human resources officer, local government officer, receptionist and project manager.

Interview arrangements

We will invite you for an informal interview, this will take place on-line using Microsoft Teams.

A short excel task will be sent to you to complete prior to the interview.

We will also ask you to complete a written task on one-side of an A4 document (summary/poster/presentation) on the topic: choose a business person and describe why they are successful (or not).

At the interview, we will invite you to speak for between one and two minutes on this topic and to give examples. We will then ask you a few questions.

We will also ask you to complete a short piece of work checking your skills in communication, numeracy and IT.
