Electricians are in great demand. This course is aimed at those who want to become fully-qualified electricians and to go on to apply for an electrician apprenticeship, or similar.

The course is backed by the Scottish Electrical Charitable Training Trust (SECTT), which manages the electrical apprenticeship programme in Scotland with the electrical industry and selected colleges.

  • Engineering

    What the course includes

    The course includes:

    • Building electrical installations, such as lighting circuits and ring mains, in our electrical workshop
    • Electrical theory
    • Health and safety
    • Working with others
    • Preparation for entry to an apprenticeship

Why choose this course

You will gain valuable workplace experience through SECTT which arranges placements with local electrical installation companies. SECTT also works with employers to secure full apprenticeships for students who successfully complete this 17-week course.

Entry requirements

  • Minimum: relevant National 4 qualifications or
  • Foundation Apprenticeship in a related subject
  • Candidates also have to satisfy the SECTT-entry requirements. This includes a colour-blindness test and an aptitude test including mathematical skills
  • Aged between 16 and 21

If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.

  • Where it leads

    Education: Modern Apprenticeship to eventually become a fully-qualified electrician; electrical engineering course at a more advanced level.
