This course is for adults who want to return to education after a break of three or more years (or five years if you already hold SCQF level 6 or HNC/D qualifications). It is designed to help you progress to a degree course in primary/secondary teaching and other subjects.

You will have the chance of work experience in a primary or secondary school with a view to developing a career in teaching.

Our SWAP courses help prepare you for university or HNC level study. In 2020-21, 94% of students progressed to university or HNC level courses. Previous students have progressed to Stirling University, Queen Margaret University for primary and secondary teaching and HNC Childhood Practice for early years.

The SWAP course also gives you a qualification to work as a Pupil Support Worker at the end of your studies.

Entry requirements

  • Must have been out of formal education for at least three years, or five years if you have Higher or equivalent qualifications
  • If you are offered a place, you need to attend a one-week maths course in the summer
  • An Enhanced Disclosure Scotland application is required which you will do through the college if offered a place.
  • Candidates educated to degree level are ineligible for this course

If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.
