NQ ACCESS TO BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES (SWAP)

This course gives students the knowledge, skills and confidence to progress on to degree courses in forensic science, biology, chemistry and the health-related professions. It is suitable for those who have been out of formal education for at least three years, or five years if you have Higher or equivalent qualifications.

Entry requirements

  • No formal entry requirements
  • Must have been out of formal education for at least three years, or five years if you have Higher or equivalent qualifications.
  • Must meet SWAP eligibility criteria (out of education for three years or five years if you have Higher or equivalent qualifications)

If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.

  • Where it leads

    Education: year one of university through UCAS, or to HNC/HND studies. Previous students have progressed onto further study at West Lothian College, The University of Abertay and Heriot Watt University.

    Access to Midwifery courses at university. 

Interview arrangements

If you are invited for an interview, plan to be in college for around two hours. Please bring the following prepared personal statement (maximum 300 words):

  • Personal qualities and interests
  • Reasons for applying for the course
  • Challenges that you will face as a mature student returning to full-time education

The interview involves:

  • Information session
  • Group discussion

If your application is succesful to study this course you will be asked to attend and successfully complete the maths summer school.
