Entry requirements

  • No formal entry requirements
  • Must have been out of formal education for at least three years, or five years if you have Higher or equivalent qualifications.
  • Must meet SWAP eligibility criteria (out of education for three years or five years if you have Higher or equivalent qualifications)

If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.

  • Where it leads

    Education: Year 1 of university through UCAS, or to HNC/HND studies.

    Previous students have progressed onto further study at West Lothian College, and universities across Scotland including, Edinburgh University, Edinburgh Napier, Queen Margaret, Stirling, Aberdeen, St. Andrews and more, studying the likes of biology, chemistry, anatomy, oral health sciences, radiography, paramedics, and biomedical sciences.

    In addition, this course provides a significant part of the entry requirements to Midwifery at Edinburgh Napier University- access to Midwifery courses at university if you complete the HHB exam or alternate modules. 

    Many of the college's students have also progressed to a PhD in research and became doctors in their field of research.

Interview arrangements

If you are invited for an interview, plan to be in college for around two hours. Please bring the following prepared personal statement (maximum 300 words):

  • Reasons for applying for the course
  • Challenges that you will face as a mature student returning to full-time education

The interview involves:

  • Information session
  • Group discussion

If your application is succesful to study this course you will be asked to attend and successfully complete the maths summer school.
