NHS Skills Boost Cohort 4

Skills Boost for Health Care is an exciting new course that has been developed in partnership with NHS Lothian and West Lothian College. It gives people the confidence and skills to start a new career with NHS Lothian as a Band 2 health care support worker, providing education and employment for people in the Lothian region and beyond.

End date: 10/03/23


Evaluations are undertaken at the end of the course to ensure the content, delivery and understanding of the information is suitable for the audience group. Continued support and evaluation will continue once employment commences via Clinical education team. This will include structured interviews and evaluations at 3,6,9,12 months.

  • What the course includes

    College led skills including: communication, professionalism, values, team working, employability, medical terminology, health and safety, risk assessment and first aid.

    NHS led skills including: food, fluid and nutrition, manual handling, understanding dementia, codes of conduct and management of aggression.

Entry requirements

You will have to provide two valid forms of ID during the interview one must have a photo and one must have your address (driver's licence/passport/young Scot’s card).

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post All jobs are only offered following receipt of two satisfactory written references. At least one reference must be from your current/most recent employer or your course tutor if you are currently a student. If you have not been employed or have been out of employment for a considerable period, you may give the name of someone who knows you well enough to confirm information given and to comment on your ability to do the job.

  • Where it leads

    If successful at interview the participants are then job matched to existing band 2 vacancies and commence the recruitment process with the relevant pre employment checks being undertaken prior to commencing with NHS Lothian.
