This course is suitable for those who wish to embark on a career in Engineering or who already work in the Engineering industry. The course considers how the various parts of a machine, or engineering system, combines to fulfil a specific function. This means how the mechanical parts, electronics, electrics and control systems all interact to make the system work as it should. The course also contains various workshop based activities.

  • What the course includes

    This course includes test and measurement, engineering principles,engineering materials, engineering applications and electrical principles health and safety.

    Because of the flexible nature of the course framework, the following clusters (group of units may also be included):

    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Fabrication and Welding

Individual Training Account funding has now been closed to new applicants as of 7thDecember 2018. Applicants should be able to apply again from April 2019, subject to Skills Development Scotland making new funds available. What options do I have for paying my course fees?

West Lothian College accept payment in full for all part time courses by Cash, Card, Bank Transfer or Cheque.


In response to the unforeseen withdrawal of ITA funding, West Lothian College have put in place an option for students to pay their course fees by instalments. This can be discussed with our Student Advice team at the time of your enrolment, and they will explain all the options and terms and conditions to you.
