NC ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING (LEVEL 6)

This course follows on from level 5 and introduces more of the theory behind the circuits built at level 5. It is aimed at those wanting to study electrical engineering at a more advanced level.

    • Electrical systems including DC systems
    • Single and three-phase AC circuits
    • Electrical analytical techniques
    • Electrical machines
    • Complex circuit analysis

Entry requirements

  • Pass in National 5 level mathematics and at least another two subjects at the same level

We encourage students who do not meet the entry requirements but who have relevant experience to apply.

We also welcome applications from mature students who do not meet the entry requirements.

  • Where it leads

    Education/employment: apprenticeship or further education with a view to becoming an electrical engineer.

Interview arrangements

If we invite you for interview, plan to be in college for around three hours. Bring evidence of any qualifications stated on your application form.

The interview involves:

  • Individual interview with the tutor and lecturer for your chosen course and another member of staff: timeslots will be allocated on the day (around 10 minutes). We will ask you about your interest in electrical engineering and why you want to study it (it will help your application if you have prepared for this)
  • Short written test with numeracy, literacy and other questions
