INTRODUCTION TO CONSTRUCTION SKILLS

This construction course is for those thinking about a career in construction. It is an ideal course for school leavers to develop skills such as plumbing, decorative painting, carpentry and joinery. It includes classroom and workshop-based activities and supports students on to further study or employment.

  • What the course includes

    You will develop skills and knowledge in various disciplines within the construction industry, including practical skills in a workshop environment.

This course can help you progress into further study, an apprenticeship or employment within the construction industry. You will be taught by experts in the industry who specialise in a range of fields, meaning you can learn the skills needed for whatever construction route you choose to go down. 

Entry requirements

  • National 3 mathematics, English and a technical/science subject
  • Interest in construction and willingness to learn

If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.

  • Where this course leads

    Education: National Progression Award (NPA) construction or plumbing, or any SCQF level 5 courses in engineering, construction and automotive at West Lothian College.

Interview arrangements

The interview involves a practical skills test and a group interview. You will need to bring copies of your previous qualifications on the day.
