HND FITNESS, HEALTH & EXERCISE

This course develops from the HNC Fitness, Health and Exercise course. It enables students to develop practical leadership skills for working with individuals and special population groups.

Start date – August 2026 

End date –  June 2027 

SCQF Level - 8 

Mode –  Full time   

Days: 3 days Monday to Friday 

Times:  9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm 

Duration: 1 Year

This course is a nationally recognised qualification endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).

As part of the course, students will gain Student Membership with CIMSPA at a discounted rate.

Why choose this course

This course involves the personal training of special population groups. This will allow the learners to gain valuable work experience and acquire relevant skills and knowledge that are required to work in the public or private sectors.

Students will also have the opportunity to gain practical experience by working in the college's gym facilities.

 

 

 

 

Entry requirements

  • HNC Fitness, Health and Exercise with 15 credits at SCQF level 7 

An Enhanced Disclosure Scotland application is required, which will be processed through the college, if offered a place. 

If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course. 

  • Where it leads

    Education: Years 2 or 3 of degree-level courses in subjects relating to Fitness, Health and Exercise. Previous students have progressed onto courses at Napier University, The University of Stirling, The University of Dundee and The University of Aberdeen.

    Employment: personal trainer or exercise leader in a health and fitness suite, sports centre or health spa. Previous students have found employment with Xcite, Fire Service or self-employment as personal trainer

Interview arrangements

If you are invited for an interview/course information session, plan to be in college for around two hours. The interview includes:

  • An introduction from the course tutor
  • An individual interview
