HND Engineering course is intended for those wishing to further develop their engineering knowledge with the aim of employment, graduate apprenticeship, or university progression.

HND Engineering is a multidisciplinary course which will allow you to study mechanical, electrical, energy and systems engineering units giving you the required skills to become a well-rounded engineer.

    What the course includes

    The course incudes:

    • Mechanical engineering units including Plant Systems, Heat Transfer and Advanced Strength of materials
    • Electrical and Engineering Systems units including Fundamentals of Control Systems and Transducers, Engineering Systems Modelling and Control & Safe Engineering systems
    • Engineering management units such as Project Management and Business awareness
    • Design for manufacture and Engineering Drawing (Autodesk Inventor)
    • Engineering Project and Engineering practical skills (engineering workshop)
    • Engineering Maths 3 and Engineering Maths 4

You will be taught by a dedicated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic team of lecturers who will support you throughout your HND.

You will have access to our newly upgraded mechanical engineering workshop and engineering lab, and you will undertake an engineering project that will teach you varies vital skills such as project management, engineering design and manufacture. All of this combined will allow you to undertake employment, find graduate apprenticeship or to continue your education at a university level.

Industrial visits, university visits and contact with people working in the field are all part of the experience.

Entry requirements

  • HNC in engineering systems, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering

We welcome mature applicants with relevant experience.

If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.

Interview arrangements

If we invite you for interview, plan to be in college for around two to three hours. Bring evidence of any qualifications stated on your application form.

HNC applicants only: we will ask you to complete an aptitude test with questions testing some standard mathematics and English skills.

For all applicants, the interview will involve:

  • Interview with two members of the engineering team (10 minutes). We will ask you about your interests and why you want to study engineering
