The HND Computing: Software Development course is designed for learners who want to progress their programming skills to an advanced level and prepare for careers or degree study in software development.

This full-time programme focuses on building robust, professional software solutions using industry-standard tools and practices. 

You will deepen your understanding of object-oriented programming, databases, data structures, and software development processes, while gaining experience through practical, project-based learning.

Entry requirements

  • HNC Computing or a related qualification 
  • ESOL Level 5 required if English is not your first language 
  • Where it leads

    Education: You may progress to degree-level study, including associate student entry to third year at Edinburgh Napier University, or other computing-related degrees across Scotland. 

    Employment: Graduates may progress into roles such as-

    • Junior Software Developer 
    • Web or App Developer 
    • Database Administrator 
    • Software Tester 
    • IT Support or Systems Engineer

Interview arrangements

If shortlisted, you will be invited to attend an interview at the college lasting approximately two hours.

This includes a 1:1 interview where you will discuss your interest in software development, previous experience, and suitability for the course. Evidence of qualifications and references may be requested. Meeting entry requirements does not guarantee a place.
