HNC ENGINEERING EVENING YEAR 2

This is a year two of a two-year course and is intended for students wanting to pursue a career in the Engineering industry at Technician or Engineer level and covers a wide range of engineering subjects from various engineering disciplines.

Duration: 2 years (This is the second year)

    • Engineering drawing including CAD and Inventor  
    • Engineering Materials and their properties  
    • Engineering Maths  
    • Electrical , Mechanical and Electromechanical Systems.  
    • Pneumatics and hydraulics Systems  
    • Programmable Logic Controllers

    The aim of the course is to give individuals an all-round understanding of how modern engineering systems work and, in doing so, considers the various sub-elements, such as the mechanical, electrical, electronic and control parts of the system, which, when working together, provides the performance we now expect from everything from a mobile phone to a car to a factory production line.

Entry Requirements

  • Completion of Year 1

If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.

  • Where it leads

    Employment as an Engineering Technician or study at HND/ Degree level.

    Past students have progressed onto further study at Napier, Heriot-Watt, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Strathclyde University some of top universities in Scotland specialising in – Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy and Environmental Engineering and Engineering with Management. (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering).

    Employment: Graduate apprenticeship to qualify at technician level; foundation for engineering and technical jobs, including design, manufacture, servicing, maintaining and testing complex engineering systems.

    Past students have found employment with companies such as Screwfix, West Lothian Council, Plexus, Mitsubishi, JBT, Volvo, Click Netherfield and Babcock.

Interview arrangements

No interview is required for this course as it is progression from Year 1.
