Beginning with the fundamentals of cyber security, you will learn the basic methods hackers use to infiltrate computer systems and how to prevent unauthorised access.

The huge increase in digital technology has had an enormous impact on society as a whole. There is a critical reliance on the internet and with a surge in the number of connected devices, the internet has become a tool for terrorism, crime and exploitation.

As a result, cyber security has become a key priority for the government as they attempt to protect against the ongoing threats that the digital revolution continues to throw up.

Entry requirements

  • One Higher grade pass (Grade C or above) plus 2 National 5 subjects, or an appropriate range of SQA units at National 5 and Higher level. National 5 Maths or equivalent desirable 
  • We welcome mature applicants with relevant experience
  • Basic to moderate computing competency is essential

If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.

  • Where it leads

    Education: for those who wish to progress to a higher level you can progress to HND or a university course. We have articulation agreements and associate programmes with Napier University with many of our previous students benefiting from this progression.

    Employment: after successful completion of this course you can apply for a range of jobs within computing and ICT. Including cyber security for a large organisation, freelance cyber security and working for a smaller specialist cyber security organisation. 

Interview arrangements

If we invite you for an interview, plan to be in college for around three hours.
