HNC CREATIVE INDUSTRIES: MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS

This course is for anyone wanting to learn about communication disciplines including journalism, TV and radio broadcasting, film and advertising. It will help you decide where your strengths lie before moving into employment or further study in the creative industries sector.

  • What the course includes

    The course covers communicating effectively using different media, and includes writing creatively for the media, developing content for audio-visual communication and effective use of digital platforms. Subjects include:

    • Radio production
    • Video production
    • Media features and trends
    • Law and the media
    • Freelance working skills
    • Film studies for new media

It will prepare you for further study at degree-level or work by giving you technical skills and experience of the media. The course includes a graded project to showcase your skills; you can resources, such as our new digital platform; and you become an associate student of Queen Margaret University.

Entry requirements

  • Two Highers are desirable, one of which must be English or
  • Foundation Apprenticeship in a related subject
  • Commitment to learning and self-motivation

We encourage students with relevant work experience or other qualifications to apply.

  • Where it leads

    Education: progression to level 8 courses at university. We partner with Queen Margaret University and with Forth Valley College for a degree with the University of Stirling.

    Employment: in many sectors in creative roles.

Interview arrangements

If you are invited for an interview, plan to be in college for around three hours. The interview involves:

  • A short presentation from the course lecturer
  • Written task (because writing effectively is central to this course)
  • Individual interview with the lecturer and another course tutor
