This course focuses on the key knowledge and skills required by a technician or site agent/manager employed in a Construction supervisory, or management role.
There is a technical content in the course where students will develop skills in Construction surveying, Construction materials and Construction technology (House construction, Commercial and industrial building construction).
The course also covers site management principles, together with basic construction planning, construction contracts, and elements of site.

Entry Requirements

Students who enter with a tleast one of the following qualifications are likely to benefit more readily fromthe programme:

  • NC or HNC in a related discipline.
  • At least one Higher level pass, with appropriate supporting passes at
    Standard Grade Credit/ National level 5 in appropriate subjects, which
    should include science and/or technology.
  • SVQ in Construction or a related discipline.
  • A craft qualification combined with appropriate further study, prior to, or in parallel with, the HNC programme.
  • Relevant industrial experience or other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.
  • International

    Education: students who achieve an HNC Construction Management can progress to the HND in Architectural Technology, Building Surveying, Construction Management, and Quantity Surveying.Employment: Possible
    progression to a supervisory or technician post in the Construction industry.
    Higher National qualifications also provide the knowledge and understanding required for related Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs).
    The HNC Construction Management provides a range of skills which support
    learning in the SVQ 3 and SVQ 4 Construction: Technical Modern
    Apprenticeship frameworks.

Individual Training Account funding has now been closed to new Applicants as of 7th December 2018. Applicants should be able to apply again from April 2019, subject to Skills Development Scotland making new funds available. What options do I have for paying my course fees?

West Lothian College accept payment in full for all part time courses by Cash, Card, Bank Transfer or Cheque.


In response to the unforeseen withdrawal of ITA funding, West Lothian College have put in place an option for students to pay their course fees by instalments. This can be discussed with our Student Advice team at the time of your enrolment, and they will explain all the options and terms and conditions to you.
