HNC BUSINESS

This course gives students the opportunity to learn about the different sectors within the business industry and is designed to give you a broad understanding of the functions of business and a clear understanding of the business environment. 

 

This course is equivalent to first year of degree study and we have a number of articulation agreements which will allow you to progress on completion of your HNC/HND qualification. We offer this course as the first year of a three-year programme which will allow you to graduate with the Edinburgh Napier University business management degree. The Edinburgh Napier University degree is also available on campus, at West Lothian College.

  • What the course includes

    In year one, you will cover core business subjects, theories of managing and motivating people, business accounting, the economy, marketing, IT business applications and human resource management. There will be an exam to assess knowledge and skills gained.

Why choose this course

The course covers all aspects of business management plus the chance to specialise in human resources (HR) or marketing for two units. You will gain work experience from placements and/or volunteering. There is also the opportunity to progress to degree-level study at West Lothian College (Edinburgh Napier University Business Management Degree).

Entry requirements

  • One Higher (such as business, administration, English, modern studies)
  • Internal candidates: completed NC business level 6
  • Foundation Apprenticeship in a related subject
  • Work experience may allow entry, depending on interview

If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.

  • Where it leads

    Education: HND business or further study elsewhere. Students who have continued their studies have gone on to work in marketing, HR, finance and operations management.

    Employment: in a wide range of sectors; also supports those wishing to start their own business.
