HNC APPLIED SCIENCE

This course is for anyone who wants to develop their knowledge and skills for further study in science-related disciplines and for work in the science industry.

  • What the course includes

    The course includes:

    • Cell biology, microbiology, genetics and biochemistry
    • Statistics
    • Lab skills and Lab safety
    • An independent research project

Entry requirements

  • Two Highers, one of which should be biology or chemistry at C grade or above, plus a minimum of National 5 for the other science (biology/ chemistry), plus
  • Two further National 5s or Standard Grades in relevant subjects (one which must be maths) or
  • Foundation Apprenticeship in a related subject
  • NQ science level 6
  • Supporting personal statement

If English is not your first language, ESOL Level 5 is an entry requirement for this course.

  • Where it leads

    Education: HND or degree courses in biomedical or biological sciences.

    Employment: jobs in science areas such as research and industrial laboratories, and biological and biomedical industries. Previous students have found employment with NHS 24 and Scottish Water.

Interview arrangements

If you are invited for an interview, plan to be in college for around two hours. Please bring evidence of your qualifications and the following prepared personal statement (maximum 300 words):
